Fantastic improvements. It is really getting there. Is there a trick to using the bracketing setting? Setting to auto save, perhaps?

  2. STEFANO says:

A big really THANKS to TOMASZ
    great work….
k7 users (now k5 users) we was so hangry about pentax.jap…
No support, few bad firmwares…and NO SOFTWARES…
The last was for K10/20 (remote assist.)
    for k7 ? nothing…and the answer of PENTAX.JAP was….no time, no like…to meake ANY UPDATE…..
    ohhhhhhh realy thank pentax.jap….

    FORTUNATLY many time later…one HOPE…but not form pentax.jap, ofcourse…
of a really good man…have spend time to make a “little” program , and give Justice also fro k7 and now k5 users !!!
    That’s absoulte TRUE!

    so again…double thanks TOMASZ
    from all pentax users!

  3. STEFANO says:

a ‘ trick for bracketing set usage…is , set the camera to breck. shoot , with example 3 shots exp.(-1 , 0 , +1) manual, without USB cable… , make ready the pentax and connect now the usb cable…, (autosave ofcourse)..and press 3 times SHutter ON PROGRAM..you still have 3 foto with 3 different expo. values.

many setting you can do BEFORE connect the cable usb….
in the wait for the nexts improvements , better of nothing!!!

  4. Cliff says:

    Hello,

Thank you to give us this tool !

    I’m working on Pentax K20D
The software is running on Sony Vaio and Windows7 64.
The software start and work without problems.
When I set the F button value to 36, an error occur.
From now, every time I try to correct or change this value ,the same error
    occur.
Even when I come out of the software and back on again.
    Thank’s again for your help.

  5. marc says:

    Great work!
But, I noticed that my K7 crashes in periodic shooting after about 5-8 pictures.
Last picture allways gets some green Matrix-like errors ().
Happens with all intervals and also in every definiton from 2 to 14MP.
    Latest Firmware, Win7 64bit.
Only battery out/in brings K7 back to life.

    Cheers,
    Marc

    Hi TOMASZ,

I’m excited to see this great work! I’m trying to run it on a Mac using Parallels Desktop. I’ve tried using Windows 7 64, and Windows XP 32 SP3. Everything is fine until I try to take a picture. The shutter fires, and then PKTether crashes. On XP, I get this error report:

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

    ************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
    enabled.

    For example:

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks,

    Mike

  8. AlGeorge says:

Would you consider selling this as an Android application?

It would be fantastic for all the Android phone and tablet users for tethering in the field.

    • Tomasz says:

I check possibilities, and so far:
      – not many phones have usb host or OTG possibilities
      – I don’t have knowledge how control usb host from android
      – I never programing for android
      – more importand for me now is port it to Mac and Linux

      • Chex says:

First off congrats and thank you so much for putting your time into this software it’s great.. I’ve had little issues using it.

The latest Asus EEE Pad now supports USB host functions.. so at least the hardware is now available for Android tablets. I’m sure if you are on Google+ but I’m sure someone within the Pentax community or Google people themselves could point you in the right direction. I would LOVE program to run on a tablet, and I would rather eat broken glass than buy an apple product or give more money to MS. So that leaves Android as the other viable platform. Wanting to Port this to linux boggles me unless it’s for your own personal use.. Just not sure how many people would actually use it, that’s all.

I’ve used the program with my i3 laptop/8GB and it works great! But for portability you simply can’t beat a tablet for screen size/processing power/battery life combo!

  9. BrBarrySDB says:

the software is pritty cool, the only problem with it at the moment it that it is very hungery on the memery, so (on my laptop) it stalled after six shots and would not allow me to save what was still on the screen…. had to close down and start again.

    • Tomasz says:

I noticed that, I will look closer, but it is first C# program for me and as I know .Net make more memory controls than programers. In C++ which I use for future versions I have more control of it.

  10. happycamper says:

Wow. I have been searching for something like this for so long.
Just installed it and have already taken about 30 shots, so far it seems
to be working as I hoped it would.
Very much appreciated that you put the work into doing something that Pentax would not do for us users.
    Keep up the great work.

  11. Dirk says:

It seems to be a great program.
Unfortunately I could not get it to work on my Samsung GX10.
I use XP SP3 or Win 7 Starter.

  12. STEFANO says:

We are all waiting your NEW (or beta) release TOM..
    Present of EASTER !!!!

    =)))

    • Tomasz says:

I’m mainly working on moving PK_Tether to C++ and Qt and add communication on Linux and Mac. Last 3 weeks I try to communicate with Pentax on Mac, so far without success. I plan next release in .Net soon, but I don’t know if I make it before Easter.

      • STEFANO says:

no problem TOMASZ…take all the time you needit.
Is just a BIG surprice what we have now … ofcourse, every news about can be only another BIG NICE surprice!!!
        so thanks always !

BUFFER PROBLEM , yes this make a problem when you shot more of 6-7 photo, the pentax (my k7) still “crash” together with program , like the buffer is full or just begin write in bad memory space… I think this is one of the more “big” problems…if we can say problems… because, if you AUTOsave the picture alwayas , the buffer is clean & ready for another foto without crash…
So..many greats and good work TOM !!!

  13. aurele says:

i just discover your little program… Well … It’s sooooooooo ****ing good !

Great job man ! keep going it’s fantastic !

it work perfectly on my computer (OS : Win7 up to date)

  14. Chris says:

Excellent software! Just one thing I noticed with the periodic shooting – after the buffer is full, it waits for it to be cleared before continuing with the shooting – even with auto save on. Maybe you could modify it so the buffer is cleared after each shot for periodic shooting?

Again, great software – its really nice of you to work on this project for the benefit of others.

    • Tomasz says:

I implement in program protection for to short time between shoots – minimum 3s. In this time photo should be downloaded to PC and buffer full situation shouldn’t occur. How long photo is downloaded from camera to your PC?

  15. Odyn says:

Great work with the software. But have you considered making it computer independent remote control? Nothing fancy (no LV, no recording to the hard drive), just an LCD, microcontroler (arduino comes to mind) and some buttons/switches/dials/whatever. It’d be great for changing the settings without touching the camera (which happens even with the best of tripods).

    • Tomasz says:

I was thinking about some non-PC controllers, but it is not so easy. I don’t know arduino but other microcontrollers like STM32… Problem is that in this device has to be implement usb host functionality and FAT32 file system. I don’t see practical use such device to control camera, I want to make it to allow control wireless via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Maybe in future I will back to this project but now I have to many work with PC software.

      • Odyn says:

Well, if you do decide to make it, arduino just might be the way to go. It’s open source and community driven so there’s lots of code and addons for it online. If I understand correctly, a code for fat support already exist as does the usb host shield and the wi-fi shield (the latter being expencive though). A Bluetooth version of arduino also exists.
But I totally understand the software part takes precedence and thank you for the good work you’re doing.

  16. mseremet says:

I have K10D and one of the thing I most wanted is “periodic shooting”.
    Thank you.

I also want to write some code for my Pentax. Is it possible to have your source code or can you give me some controling codes?

  17. wll says:

What a great little program, installed it yesterday on my laptop, been using on my K20D and it works like a charm !

It is very funny that one person can produce this program and Pentax can’t or won’t. Tethering is not a luxury, it is a necessity. Staring at a small screen when shooting product shots is not my idea of fun. Shooting a series of products and then having to take out the SD card or download images to your computer is not the best use of time and a royal pain.

I really don’t think Pentax cares about folks that use there camera is a serious maner …. I’m just very glad that Tomasz does ;- )

    wll

  18. STEFANO says:

right!!! Pentax.jap is really HORRIBLY for support!!!
Remote assistant was just ready for K10 and k20 users… but to much work for Pentax make a update also for k7 , and now k5 users , not?!
and ‘always too stingy and only interested in pocketing the money of customers, not to give anything at all to support, not even a miserable little program.
Look Canon…1000 programs for support FREE..and if you like PROFESSIONAL program look BREEZE and dream… why pentax reflex not have? Breeze.com have sayd time ago…WE DON’T LIKE ANY TO DO WITH PENTAX.JAP…..why? money…pentax like only money and give nothing…so I understand BREEZE.
We have buy a expansive k7 one year ago….now ship half price, no firmwares any more…many video funcions we can only dream, super reflex…super PENTAX!
So…of course is to say 100000000000000000 thanks to TOMASZ , because if you wait something like this FROM pentax.jap…you just be in another world!!!
For many years I belive and hope ,and buy form pentax…to many lens for change !! But now is time to finish….no more pentax…K7 was my last model…and now with canon RULES …I know…is bed change , but BAD is pentax.jap politicy…not I !!!

  19. mminamig says:

    Thanks Tomasz.
This is quite convenient software which Pentax can not provide. This is my first software which I really wish to donate. I tried to use this for astro photo with K-r. My K-r has latest firmware which is possible to use bulb in all ISO speed without Noise Reduction. But PK_Tether does not allow to set longer exposure time than shooting interval. If you consider about Dark Flame Subtraction, please consider also, that K-5 and K-r are already free from DFS constraint in latest firmware.
I wish next version of this would better for astro photo.

    • Tomasz says:

In next version I will add possibility to set time for “Bulb” exposure. Workaround for now is like you wrote, set it in periodic shooting and limit photos to 1.

  20. shefflex says:

Hi Tomasz. This seems to be a great piece of software. Unfortunately, it will not recognise my Samsung GX10. I`ve tried My K100D Super, and although it recognises the camera and fires the shutter no images are recorded. I have tried to change the Jpeg setting to 6mp but it defaults back to 10mp. Do you think support for these two cameras will be included in future releases?

  21. STEFANO says:

for k 100 (super and normal) you can dowload here ( http://driver.dascaricare.net/download-driver,15785,Pentax__star_istD_Remote_Assistant_Software_v1_dot_0_Windows_2000XP.html ) the software REMOTE ASSISTANT 1.0 was for the 1stD pentax model, before K100… work fine , sure little slow ..but you can work.
Important is SET the k100 manualy and RAW …. the photo still capture on pc , but ONNY on raw formate…

The software is not more on the PENTAX site…have delete… but you cna download here…wait 10 seconds and go..)

  22. Chrys says:

What a terific piece of work this little application is. Many, many thanks.

There are still a couple of minor bugs that I have spotted however :-

    – The download does not unzip and install into a folder on my laptop/pcether from within it’s zip folder.

    – The Green Button function does not work at all.

    – When I try to exit the program I get a Windows error message saying

‘Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit the application will close immediately.

Access to the path ‘C:WindowsSystem32Settings.cfg’ is denied’

    – All in all a very impressive job, thanks.

  23. kvoz123 says:

You have started good project, but, unfortunately, it is useless for Linux (you took PK_Remote and, I hope, it was useful). The problem is in usage if .NET framework that has been (probably) designed with the only goal — to prevent applications to be ported to any other OS … Linux supports only .NET 1.1 (or 2.0?), so, even if you have source code, you can not easy recompile, to obtain working binary.

Do you plan make Linux or MAC OSX version of your program, in aforeseen future?

    • Tomasz says:

Yes, I’m planing version for Mac and Linux – for that I started porting it to C++ and Qt . but in my life I have so many changes recently that work on PK_Tether is going very slowly.

  24. smoke0209 says:

    i got problem
    i am a K-m user
when i conect my k-m to my pc it works
but when i take the shut the my sysitem just shut down and the blue sreen just show up
i use win 7 on MAC
is any solution for this problem??

  25. AlGeorge says:

    Request:

    1. Ability to set focus automatically, for focus stacking in macro photography. I know you have AF ability, how about MF ability through the computer? A nice short script or setting to adjust the range of the focus and how many pictures to take in between the max and the minimum focus would be nice.

    2. Ability to run on Windows 8. Let’s face it, it’s the new OS for people next year. It would be very useful for photographers in the field who are using tablets. I don’t know if you can build the application for both Windows 8 ARM and Windows 8 x86 and it’s useful on both. You’re using .NET which should be good for porting in between.

    3. Auto bracketing for people who want to do HDR.

  26. AlGeorge says:

I also forgot, the bulb feature would be fantastic. Please work on making this clean and bug free before adding features. We can wait for a good piece of software.

Have you considered open sourcing this and getting help from people? You wouldn’t be doing all the work which would be easier for you, and we would receive updates a bit faster as well.

  27. STEFANO says:

    Yea Algeorge…
I think also Tomasz need help , because without , this program is just dead…
many months..no news… is a CLASSIC true for pentax reflex , no softwares, no updates..
I hope Tomasz open the doors to WHO can help in the code, and made this program more functionaly !! Is hoorible to see , reflex like canon 550d (400 euro) have “BREEZE” softwares , super….. and reflex like k7 , k5 (1200 euro) NOTHING!!!! really shame (pentax.jap!!!)
